How Marathon Tanzania collects, uses and protects information when you use our website, app and event services.

Effective date: 15 July 2026
This policy applies to Marathon Tanzania (MBIO) websites, mobile experiences and related event services.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide when creating an account, registering for an event, contacting support or using platform features. This can include your name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, gender, emergency contact, event category, shirt size and other registration details requested by an organizer.

When you track a run or enable location features, we may collect GPS location, route, distance, pace, elevation and device sensor data. We may also receive technical information such as browser type, device identifiers, IP address, app version and diagnostic logs.

2. Payments

Payments may be processed by mobile money, banks, card networks or other payment providers. We do not normally store complete card or mobile-money credentials. We receive transaction references, payment status and limited details needed to confirm registration, handle refunds and prevent fraud.

3. How we use information

4. When we share information

We may share relevant registration information with the organizer of an event you enter. We may also share information with service providers that help operate hosting, messaging, analytics, payments, maps, customer support and security. These providers may use information only to deliver services for us and according to their contractual and legal duties.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the public, or in connection with a business reorganization. We do not sell personal information.

5. Public and social features

If you choose public profiles, leaderboards, live sharing or route replay features, selected information may be visible to other users or people with your sharing link. Review your privacy settings before publishing a run or location.

6. Data retention and security

We retain information for as long as needed to provide services, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes and protect the platform. We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

You may request access, correction or deletion of personal information, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements. You can stop location collection by ending tracking or changing device permissions. You may also unsubscribe from optional marketing messages while continuing to receive essential service communications.

8. Children's privacy

Participants under the age required to consent in their jurisdiction should use the service only with permission and involvement from a parent or legal guardian. Event organizers may require additional guardian information for youth races.

9. International services

Some service providers may process information outside Tanzania. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to require appropriate protection consistent with applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or legal requirements change. The latest version will appear on this page with a revised effective date.
